Industrial Technology Research Institute – Taiwan
Taiwan’s Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) is a nonprofit R&D organization engaging in applied research and technical services. Founded in 1973, ITRI has played a vital role in transforming Taiwan’s economy from a labor-intensive industry to a high-tech industry. Numerous well-known, high-tech companies in Taiwan, such as leaders in the semiconductor industry TSMC and UMC, can trace their origins to ITRI. ITRI is a multidisciplinary research center, with six core laboratories and seven technology centers,several leading labs and various business development units. The six fields ITRI focuses on include Information and Communications, Electronics and Optoelectronics, Material, Chemical and Nanotechnology, Medical Device and Biomedical, Mechanical and Systems, Green Energy and Environment.
In the area of Material, Chemical and Nanotechnology, ITRI collaborates with competitive industries in Taiwan to develop key materials and components in the field of electronics, optoelectronics and panel display. In the meantime, ITRI develops high-tech fibers and specialty chemicals, in cope with the demand for the transformation of traditional textile and chemical industries to high value-added industries. ITRI has also devoted to the development of green energy, biomedical and biomass materials, which drives the growth of emerging industries. Strategically, through integration of nanotechnology and materials/chemical technologies, ITRI expedites the development of high-end materials and components for next-generation products with intrinsic technical innovation and self-owned intellectual property rights.
Since its inception, ITRI has been dedicated to promoting the advancement of Taiwan’s diverse high-tech industries with a mission of:

- Aiding in the process of upgrading industrial technology techniques
- Shaping the future of industrial technologies for greater efficiency and sustainability
